The name goes back to at least the 1860s, when records called the field beside the creek the “Frenchmen's field,” likely after a group of French Canadian horse thieves captured on a nearby ranch in 1842. The homes came much later, mostly in the mid-1980s, many on cul-de-sacs around a small neighborhood park.
