Pescadero, Spanish for “fishing place,” sits on land that was part of the Rancho Pescadero granted to Juan José Gonzales in 1833; the town was established in 1856 and by the end of the century was a trout-fishing and seaside resort destination. Today it's a small farming town a couple of miles inland from Pescadero State Beach, surrounded by farms, ranches and open coastline. Homes range from older in-town houses to ranch properties, and sales are few, about 3 to 6 a year, often taking a few months; the 12-month median is around $1.2M.
Parking & walkability: Homes have driveways and off-street parking. In town, the general store, cafés and shops along Stage Road are walkable, and the beaches are a short drive. Half Moon Bay is about 25 minutes north on Highway 1.
