Originally part of William Davis Merry Howard's Rancho San Mateo, it was built out earlier than most of Hillsborough, with Tudor and Mediterranean homes of 3,000 to 4,000 square feet on half-acre to acre lots, followed by 1950s–'60s ranches and, more recently, grand new homes behind gated entries. The 1937 Arthur and Mona Hofmann House on La Cuesta Road is a local landmark. It's one of the town's more active areas, with about 10 to 12 sales a year and a 12-month median around $5.12M, and the median rose about 48% from 2015–16 to 2024–25, ahead of the town's 34%.
