San Bruno Park San Bruno, CA
East San Bruno near downtown, one of the city's most affordable single-family areas.
Living in San Bruno Park
San Bruno Park was the city's first subdivision, sold by George A. Greene & Company in the early 1900s after the #40 trolley line opened from San Francisco, with lots going for $200 down and $25 a month. It never filled in the uniform way its founders planned, so today it's a mix of homes from different eras, many resembling San Francisco's Richmond and Sunset districts, close to downtown and The Shops at Tanforan, built on the site of the once-famous Tanforan racetrack. It's one of the most affordable single-family areas on the Peninsula, with a 12-month median around $930K.
Parking & walkability: Lots are smaller and many homes have one-car garages, so street parking gets busier on some blocks. In return it's one of San Bruno's most walkable areas: San Bruno Avenue's shops, El Camino Real and the Caltrain station are close by, and Highway 101 and 380 are minutes away.
