Mills Estate sits in the hills on the Millbrae–Burlingame border, on part of the land Bank of California founder Darius Ogden Mills bought in the 1860s; he named his estate “Millbrae,” combining his name with the Scottish word for rolling hills. The land was subdivided in the 1950s, after Burlingame's attempt to annex it helped spur Millbrae's 1948 incorporation, and developers Trousdale and Murchison, whose names are on its main streets, completed the first homes on Sequoia Avenue in December 1954. Today it's a mix of large view homes and a good number of condos. Single-family homes are among Millbrae's highest-priced, with a 12-month median around $2.91M, while condos had a 2025 median around $807K.
